About the role:
The Technical Officer provides high-level support for teaching and research programs, ensuring efficient delivery of practical programs and assisting academic staff and students. Primarily focused on environmental sciences, the role also supports other disciplines as needed. The position involves collaboration with staff, students, and external organisations to source supplies and services. Strong organisational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills are essential for success in this role.
As a Technical Officer, Environmental Sciences, you will:
- Consult with relevant sources and seek expert advice to provide technical and research support for teaching and research programs, ensuring smooth class and field activity operations.
- Provide technical expertise in the operation and maintenance of specialised instrumentation and prepare materials for classes.
- Promote and apply Occupational Health and Safety standards across research and teaching laboratory activities.
- Coordinate materials and equipment requirements for practical teaching classes, ensuring smooth operations for staff and students.
- Maintain stock control procedures, trial and modify experiments, respond to technical issues, and contribute to projects within the school.
To be successful, you’ll have:
- Completion of a Bachelor of Science degree with majors in a suitable environmental science, without subsequent relevant work experience, or
- Completion of an Associate Diploma and at least two years of relevant work experience, or
- An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Experience working in a related field or discipline in higher education or a similar large, complex environment.
- Good knowledge of OH&S principles and an understanding of safety requirements when working outdoors.
