About the role:
The School of Information Technology is seeking a Computing and Information Technology Systems Manager with strong technical expertise and demonstrated leadership skills. This role is responsible for managing computing operations and ICT support for staff and students, including oversight of day-to-day activities and the development of leading-edge policies for hardware and software systems. The successful candidate will help ensure the School’s teaching and research objectives are met across a range of specialist areas, including robotics, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), cybersecurity, virtual and augmented reality, and broader ICT infrastructure.
The role reports directly to the Head of School and works closely with the Associate Head of School (Strategy and Engagement). In this position, you will be responsible for effectively overseeing ICT service delivery and operational management within the School, ensuring that systems, methodologies, and procedures are consistently applied and maintained.
As the Computing and Information Technology Systems Manager, you will:
- Lead and deliver ICT initiatives that support the School’s teaching, research, and operational goals, including promoting innovative technologies in areas like robotics, AI, IoT, cybersecurity, and immersive technologies.
- Plan, implement, and oversee technical solutions by consulting with Faculty stakeholders and collaborating with University ICT teams to align School priorities with broader policies.
- Manage ICT service delivery and operational support in partnership with SEBE ICT and eSolutions, advocating for the School’s specific computational and data needs.
- Oversee ICT budgets and resource planning, including costing, forecasting, and effective allocation to support sustainable and efficient operations.
- Develop and maintain detailed reporting and auditing documentation to ensure transparency, compliance, and continuous improvement across ICT functions.
- Build and coach the ICT team to enhance technical capability, ensure high-quality support, and foster professional development. Work closely with diverse stakeholders to negotiate equitable outcomes and foster collaboration.
- Develop and maintain robust systems, procedures, and lifecycle strategies to ensure secure, compliant, and efficient management of the School’s ICT infrastructure and resources.
To be successful, you’ll have:
- Postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications, plus extensive relevant experience; or
- Extensive experience and management expertise; or
- An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
- Experience in server administration, HPC and cluster management, and virtualization platforms
- Experience with network configuration and management
- Knowledge of Linux and GPU scripting, storage management, quantum computing, and cloud systems
