We're proud to be a progressive and open-minded university, delivering the highest student satisfaction in Victoria and consistently ranked in the top 1% of the world's universities.

The Clinical Trials Hub

Deakin University has established a world-class Clinical Trials Hub (CTH) to strengthen the region’s clinical research capacity and deliver innovative, locally relevant research. The CTH aims to position Deakin as a leading provider of clinical trial services for industry partners while improving access to clinical trials for patients, especially those in regional and rural communities. In addition to industry-led research, the CTH will support investigator-initiated trials.

Recognising the growing importance of clinical trials as a vital research activity and a source of competitive funding, training, and institutional growth, Deakin has developed the CTH as a centralised and coordinated resource model. This model enhances support for planning, implementation, and oversight of clinical research beyond existing services.

The CTH will ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and will strengthen Deakin’s capacity to meet increasing obligations around governance, regulation, and quality management. It will also provide essential governance frameworks, tools, and technologies to support all aspects of clinical trial activity at Deakin.

The Director, Clinical Trials Hub will lead the strategic development and operational execution of Deakin University’s clinical trial initiatives. This role encompasses oversight across key domains, including finance, operations, workforce planning, quality assurance, systems and technology, marketing, partner engagement, ethics, and governance.

As a subject matter expert in clinical trial management and regulatory compliance, the Director will ensure all clinical trial activities align with national and international best practices, including adherence to evolving regulatory standards. The Director will be accountable for the growth, sustainability, and impact of the CTH, managing a multidisciplinary team and driving performance against key indicators.

Through strategic leadership and strong stakeholder engagement, the Director will foster collaboration across internal and external partners to deliver efficient, high-quality, and ethically sound clinical trials that support Deakin’s research ambitions and contribute to improved health outcomes.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • A doctoral degree (MD, PhD, or equivalent in a relevant scientific or medical field).
  • Clinical trials relevant accreditation at a national or international level.
  • Substantial experience (8–10 years or more) in managing and overseeing clinical trials, including research partnerships, projects, teams, and resources.
  • Proven ability to undertake research engagement with industry, government and/or community organisations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of University systems related to research quality assurance and governance.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and ethical guidelines related to clinical trials.
  • Thorough understanding of financial management principles and experience managing a cost centre or business unit.
  • Experience in leading the development of research-related procedures, protocols, and ethics/governance applications.
  • Demonstrated track record of successful trial execution, data management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated success as an eminent authority in research and scholarship through high-quality publications.
  • Sustained success in obtaining competitive external research grants.
