The General Manager, DUELI leads and manages the Deakin University English Language Institute (DUELI), overseeing its brand, budget, and positioning within the University and international markets. The role ensures student recruitment targets are met and directs marketing and promotion of ELI pathway programs to support international enrolment goals. It maintains and develops pathways into Deakin University and Deakin College, ensuring high student satisfaction.

Reporting into the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Vice President (International), the General Manager provides academic and operational leadership to a multifunctional team, including workforce planning, recruitment, and professional development of teachers. The role drives business development in a competitive market and ensures compliance across ELI programs. The position conducts environmental scanning, engages with peak bodies and sector experts, and sets ELI’s strategic direction.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Degree, Post Graduate Qualifications TESOL qualifications and extensive relevant experience in English Language Training programs.
  • Extensive experience in leadership and management of English Language Training (ELT) programs in a university ELICOS setting.
  • Extensive experience in developing, teaching and evaluating English for Academic Purposes, English for Specific Purposes and General English courses.
  • Demonstrated awareness of the pathway options and issues related to international students undertaking direct entry English language pathway programs.
  • Experience in International context marketing and business development.
  • Experience managing revenue and expenditure budgets.
