About the role:

Partnering with stakeholders across the University, the Health & Safety Specialist focuses on health and safety risk assessment and hazard management, incident investigation, training delivery, procedure development, auditing and inspections, safety in design advice, OHS consultation, delivery of health and safety projects and programs, internal/external reporting and the identification of emerging opportunities or legislative requirements.

 

As a Health & Safety Specialist, you will:

  • Provide advice on the resolution of health and safety issues, ensuring legislative requirements are met and escalating complex matters as required
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure a collaborative and proactive approach to health and safety.
  • Monitor legislation, standards and best practices to support the identification of emerging opportunities or legislative requirements across a range of general and specialised health and safety topics.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues to develop and implement health and safety projects, programs and initiatives at both the local and University level.

                                                                                                                                                                                      

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or
  • Extensive experience and management expertise; or
  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Experience working within a large scale and complex organisation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of contemporary Occupational Health and Safety legislation, standards and best practice including experience in accident investigation, hazard identification, assessment and control.
