Upper GI, Bariatric and General Surgery Fellow 2024-2025

Full time fixed term (6 or 12 months available)

The Position involves two roles across the UGI, Bariatric and General Surgical Units.

  1. Surgical assistant / fellow with five UGI & Bariatric surgeons.
  2. Participation on the general surgery roster, admitting patients under your name.

 

On call requirements:

  • One 24hr period per week (Monday PM to Friday AM)
  • 1 in 4 weekends (Friday PM to Monday AM)

 

During on-call periods, you will be responsible for patients you admit, with senior consultants available for support.  You will also supervise other SET and Service Registrars, RMOs and Interns under the direction of general surgery consultants.

 

Essential Criteria

  • Eligibility for Australian Medical Board specialist registration.
  • Access to an unrestricted provider number that attracts Medicare benefits.
  • Clinical and procedural experience in acute general, UGI & Bariatric surgery.
  • Ability to provide medical education, teaching, supervision, training, and support to RMOs and interns.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, to interact effectively with patients, families and staff.
  • Organisational and time management skills, with commitment to safe, timely patient centred care.
  • Active participation in CME and regular performance reviews to maintain and upgrade knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to monitor and review clinical effectiveness, identify limitations, and implement strategies for safe patient care.
  • Knowledge and commitment to Equal Opportunity in all aspects of employment and service delivery.

 

Desirable criteria includes previous academic/research experience and a commitment to ongoing education and research in Australian hospitals.
