About the Role 

The Patient Liaison Officer is a crucial component to the private service JHC offers. As such the PLO will have a presence in both the Emergency Department, throughout the hospital wards, and in the office preparing financial estimates.

 

  • Specific training in health insurance tables and Meditech insurance registration will be provided to the successful applicants.
  • Applicants with medical practice, hospital billing, health fund or Medicare background will be highly regarded.
  • Acting in a professional manner and maintaining confidentiality at all times, you will report to the Patient Liaison Officer Supervisor and work in a respected and supportive team that positively promotes the company.
  • As a shift worker the successful applicant must be available to work various shift patterns and will be rostered as required. 
  • Monday to Sunday between 6am and 12 midnight, including public holidays.

 

Responsibilities to include (but not limited to):

  • Complete health fund checks for private patients being admitted into the hospital.
  • Communicate with private patients and health funds/insurance companies regarding private health cover.
  • Communicate with emergency patients to encourage private admissions into the hospital.
  • Create admissions for private patient admissions via Emergency Department: private health fund, worker’s compensation, DVA, overseas insured, and self-funded.
  • Prepare Informed Financial Consent forms.
  • Collection of patient gaps from patients in the emergency department and/or an admitted inpatient.
  • Liaise with doctors and clinic staff when necessary.
  • Attend to inpatients and assist with any financial queries.
  • Organising referrals for Home Care Services (ex gratia) i.e., Obtaining quotes from pharmacy, getting approval from health funds, liaising with discharge co-ordinators, wards, and silver chain etc to get patient discharged in a timely manner.

 

Selection Criteria:

Essential

  • Demonstrated commitment to uphold and promote the Ramsay Way core values
  • Initiative, accuracy and strong attention to detail
  • Confidence and experience with MS Office applications especially Excel
  • Ability to prioritise workload
  • Ability to work as part of a team, with or without supervision.

 

Desirable

  • Background experience such as: hospital and medical administration roles; customer service roles
  • Knowledge of health insurance benefit tables and medical billing item numbers
  • Experience using Meditech or other patient administration software. 

 

Remuneration: On offer is base hourly rate ranging from $37.11 + superannuation based on experience level and qualifications, exclusive of penalties or allowances.

Requirements

  • Must provide a National Police check conducted within the previous 12 months
