Job Description

Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC
Research Assistant, Farris Lab

The Farris lab ( at Fralin Biomedical Research Institute (FBRI focuses on understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying learning and how these processes are disrupted in neurodevelopmental disorders, such as autism spectrum disorders. We are currently investigating area CA2 of the hippocampus, a subregion that is thought to be required for social memory. Using a combination of mouse genetics to gain access to specific hippocampal cell-types, deep sequencing technologies to obtain a genomewide view of transcription and translation, and single molecule imaging techniques to illuminate subcellular processes in vivo, we hope to provide mechanistic insight on the behaviorally-induced synaptic modifications in CA2 that may be required for encoding social behavior.

The Farris lab ( is recruiting a fulltime Research Assistant that will be responsible for performing molecular and cellular neurobiology experiments, aiding with mouse colony maintenance and oversight, and assisting with lab-related administrative tasks. The successful applicant will also be expected to participate in lab meetings, record and analyze data, and assist in the preparation of manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication and presentations.
