Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC
Part-Time Research Technician- A part-time Research Assistant is being sought to operate and maintain the GCMS and HPLC systems to perform metabolomics analyses in the Warren lab at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at Virginia Tech Carilion in Roanoke, Virginia. The lab is equipped with the Shimadzu Triple Quadrupole GCMS-TQ8050 NX (EI/CI/NCI) and Nexera HPLC systems. Projects in the lab are highly interdisciplinary and combine basic and translational study to investigate metabolic regulation in the healthy and failing hearts. This position will provide an excellent opportunity to gain research experience in cardiac research and multisystems approach as preparation for graduate school or medical school.

Required Qualifications

• Excellent communication and organization, must be detail oriented, and capable of working independently and as part of a team.
• Demonstrated ability to interact respectfully and comfortably with all individuals in a
diverse, multicultural environment exercising judgment and high degree of confidentiality.
• Prior experience in operating and maintaining a mass-spectrometer or similar equipment.
• Working knowledge of mass-spectrometry principles and output data formats.

Preferred Qualifications

• B.S. in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field with an emphasis on laboratory experience, or equivalent education, training and experience.
