Job Description

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Finance and Operations at the Innovation Campus, the Grants Administrator will be responsible for providing support and guidance to faculty in response to large-scale funding opportunities, coordination of proposal development, including preparation of proposal budgets and other standard grant documentation, and assembly for submission of high quality, complete, and compliant proposals. The position will establish guidelines for proposal submission while ensuring compliance with sponsors and Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) timelines and standards. The position will coordinate with OSP, Innovation Campus faculty and various institutes regarding subcontract, invoices and joint research funding. The position will also assist faculty with post-award management by tracking expenditures, generating reports and cost projections for budgeting and planning purposes, and forecasting long-term funding and utilization of research staff.

For the selected candidate to be successful, they will possess exceptional knowledge of grant policies, processes, and systems. They will have keen analytical, project management and problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects. They will work well under pressure with the ability to be flexible, proactive and results-oriented. The successful candidate will have the ability to comprehend contractual documents and maintain discretion with confidential information.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Public or Business Administration, finance, or related field(s) or significant training and/or experience.
• Demonstrated experience with proposal preparation and submission.
• Experience in grants or contract management, research administration, budgeting, accounting, or another field related to the position.
• Knowledge of policies and procedures of federal funding agencies (e.g., NSF, NIH, DoD).
• Knowledge of OMB Uniform Guidance.
• Knowledge of IRB process and its impact on awards.
• Experience working in electronic research administrative systems.
• Advanced MS Office skills with an emphasis on Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in higher education.
• Knowledge of Virginia Tech university research and fiscal policies and procedures.
• Experience with federal funding agency Web submissions sites such as grants.gov.
• Experience with management tools such as Banner Finance, HRIS, and Microstrategy.
• Training and/or experience in technical writing and understanding of scientific research.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization.
