Job Description

Program Support Technician supports the Physics Department's Center for Neutrino Physics (CNP) and the Physics Department. This position works collegially with other department members to provide program and research support by assisting with travel reservations and itineraries as needed, processing travel reimbursements, and serves as primary contact and resource person for the CNP faculty, staff, students and external inquiries.

Provides fiscal support by assisting with managing and planning of fiscal matters in CNP and the Physics Department, developing and maintaining manual and electronic files on all purchases and payments, processing VTF transactions and submitting for payment as incurred, assisting with monthly reconcilements, processing HokieMart ISRs and orders, IPRs, direct bill payments, and CNP purchasing card paperwork. Monitors daily purchasing and HokieMart transactions. Provides public relations and media support for CNP.

Other responsibilities include designing, composing, editing, publishing and distributing material in support of CNP initiatives; assisting the director in the preparation of annual reports, including the ongoing collection of materials; organizing, purchasing, and preparing refreshments for seminars and workshops; providing web support to CNP with general administrative and programmatic assistance for assigned web pages and using and maintaining various computer programs.

Required Qualifications

Successful candidate must have experience providing administrative, fiscal and program support in a professional or academic office environment; strong computer skills with working knowledge of a variety of software such as MS Word and MS Excel; must have strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize job and work with frequent interruptions; must be able to maintain professional communications and interactions with students, faculty, staff and other entities within and outside the university; ability to interpret and apply university and department policies.

Preferred Qualifications

Working knowledge of federal and nonfederal grant and contract regulations; project administration and/or project management experience; working knowledge of basic accounting and purchasing principles and processes; demonstrated knowledge of HokieMart; experience using Banner Finance; experience working in an academic office; demonstrated desk top publishing experience and proficiency with web page editing software; web site maintenance experience; demonstrated writing and editing experience.
