Job Description

The primary role of this position is to serve as a Tier 1 Audio-Visual Technician for Classroom Audio Visual Services. Reporting to the Manager of Classroom Audio Visual Services under the University Registrar, this person is responsible for providing support in the form of working with end users, AV system testing, AV system preventative maintenance, and minor AV system repair in spaces under the purview of Classroom Audio Visual Services including general assignment classrooms, departmental spaces, conference rooms, and boardrooms. The person in this position plays a major customer service role for the department as they will be responsible for training end users, meeting with end users in times of need, and troubleshooting issues reported by end users. This position will provide assistance and support as needed for Classroom Audio Visual Services operations.

The person in this position must have strong oral and written communication skills and be able to articulate AV issues and solutions with end users (layman terms) and other AV team members (AV technical terminology). The position will be a part of a team, but will require the person to be independent in many cases. This position will be supporting end users in the form of faculty, staff, students, and guests of the University.

This is a part-time wage position and limited to no more than 1500 hours per year. This role is considered entry level and the potential for upward growth within the department exists as positions become available.

Required Qualifications

-An interest in the audio-visual industry
-Experience in customer support
-Experience with various web-conferencing and lecture capture applications
-Experience with Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android computer systems
-Must be able to move or lift a minimum of 50 pounds
-Must be able to work from ladders or scaffolding as required
-Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

-Experience in higher education
-Experience in customer support related to AV systems
-Experience with use of Crestron and QSC components
-Basic IT networking experience
-Experience documenting issues and resolutions through a ticketing system
-Basic knowledge of AV signal flow
-Experience in troubleshooting laptops
-Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form
-Ability to operate comfortably in high stress environments
-Experience providing rapid and effective support to end users
-Demonstrated ability to work within a team and independently to achieve goals

Salary Information

Hourly rate is commensurate with experience up to an expected budget max of $18/hr
