The Parking Services Department at Virginia Tech is a dynamic and critical department supporting all aspects of university operations and impacting every faculty, staff, student, contractor, and visitor.
The Parking Services Manager oversees all aspects of the department and serves as the day-to-day operational leader, executing the ongoing development, implementation, and assessment of the university’s parking system. In addition, the Manager serves as the departmental liaison to the university and surrounding community, implements procedures to maximize the use of technology, and continuously improves the overall efficiency of the university's parking operations.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Auxiliary Services, the Manager leads a robust team of parking professionals to provide a safe and effective parking experience at all facilities. The incumbent supervises key departmental team leaders for Customer Service, Operations, Enforcement, and Events and enhances a team-based culture that support efficiency, effectiveness, continuous improvement, and customer service. The Manager also promotes employee development through employee engagement, recognition for achieved skills and competencies, and the encouragement and support for high-performance self-monitoring work teams.
To successfully carry out these functions, the Parking Services Manager must have:
• excellent management skills to lead a cross-functional team focused on superior service to the university community.
• experience managing financial, physical, and technological resources to execute university and departmental priorities successfully.
• knowledge of the inner workings of the parking and transportation industry.
The incumbent also performs other duties as requested; takes initiative to support a healthy work environment; strives to fulfill the terms in the Standards of Business Conduct; exemplifies the Virginia Tech Principles of Community; and supports the university’s motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve).
Education
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or significant relevant training and experience.
Experience
• Demonstrated management experience in parking, transportation operations, or similar operations.
• Experience in planning and managing parking and transportation operations for events such as concerts, large intercollegiate athletic events such as football, or similar situations.
• Experience in reviewing maintenance requirements of surface and structured parking and managing repairs in line with industry standards.
• Experience managing a complex and robust budget and analyzing fiscal reports.
• Demonstrated experience analyzing and summarizing data in a variety of formats.
• Demonstrated experience working effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders.
• Considerable experience training and mentoring employees.
• Previous supervisory experience in a complex, high-volume operation.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership abilities.
• Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Considerable knowledge of parking services policies and parking facilities management.
• Considerable knowledge of traffic flow patterns and parking requirements on a large university campus or similar operations.
• Advanced working knowledge of parking management systems, such as T2 Systems.
• Proficient computer experience with programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
• Ability to network, develop and maintain effective working relationships with key individuals throughout the University, community, and within the parking services profession.
• Demonstrated conflict resolution skills.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Ability to complete numerous projects and details simultaneously and accurately with minimal direction and supervision.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Must be willing and able to work extended hours in support of campus events.
• Experience in higher education parking and transportation operations
• Experience with T2 Flex data management
• Extensive knowledge of industry best practices as well as relationships with industry peers
• Experience in managing complex business practices
Exempt: Not eligible for overtime
40+ on-site in Blacksburg, VA. Primarily Monday through Friday with occasional weekend work hours required for events.
The selected candidate will be required to successfully complete a criminal conviction and driving records check.
