This is a Research Associate position in the Sled Lab within the Center for Injury Biomechanics. The Sled Lab conducts research on the human tolerance to impact and injury with a focus on automotive safety and military applications.
Position responsibilities include planning, preparation, completion, analysis, and reporting of injury biomechanics experiments. Detailed responsibilities comprise preparation of human tissues for impact biomechanics and material testing and performing autopsies posttest. The researcher will also conduct experiments with ATDs and human volunteers. This includes setup and use of data acquisition and imaging systems for data collection as well as setup and preparation of test apparatuses and fixtures. The researcher will perform several types of tests, working with several types of test fixtures and apparatuses including a crash sled, impactors and pendulums, restraint systems, highspeed biplane x-ray, tissue testers, drop towers, and material testing machines. The researcher will also be responsible for data processing, analysis, and reporting. Reporting involves data curation and generating written reports for sponsors in addition to contributing to peer-reviewed publications.
This position includes both independent work and working collaboratively with a team of researchers. The Research Associate will take direction from and report findings to the principal investigator. The Research Associate will work side by side with graduate and undergraduate students and may be responsible for supervising and coordinating student work.
Must be able to travel and have a valid driver’s license. Due to the restrictions from the funding agencies, US Citizenship status is required. Excludes Permanent Residents.
-Master’s degree in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related area OR significant combination of related experience and a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Must have strong organization skills and be willing to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Must have a background in either biomechanics, mechanics, anatomy/physiology, mechanical design, electronics/sensors, and/or machining.
- valid driver’s license
- Due to the restrictions from the funding agencies, US Citizenship status is required. Excludes Permanent Residents.
-Experience using crash test sensor and data acquisition techniques (specifically DTS equipment), material testing devices, motion capture systems, and cameras.
-Experience with PMHS preparation and testing, and use of ATDs.
-Experience with material testing
-Experience processing and analyzing biomechanical or related data
-Proficiency in Excel, Matlab, R, and JMP
-Proficiency in generating technical reports
-Experience in CNC machining, welding, soldering, CAD design, and design and implementation of electromechanical systems
Exempt: Not eligible for overtime
Commensurate with experience, starting at $55,000
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
