The Military Transition Coordinator works closely with the director to serve student veterans and members of the military-connected community in their transition into the Virginia Tech community. This position works to develop and sustain campus partnerships that facilitate programs and events supporting student needs. The Military Transition Coordinator will provide student services to include VA education benefit advising and benefit management, administrative support, community building programs and events, outreach, student veteran recognition, and advocacy and support services.
- Bachelor’s degree or significant work experience in a relevant field
- Intermediate knowledge of software systems: MS Office, Microsoft Outlook, Teams, SharePoint
- Excellent time management and problem-solving skills with attention to details
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
- Ability to work in multi-stakeholder collaborations with other university departments (Registrar’s Office, Bursar’s Office, Financial Aid, Athletics, Advising, SSD, CPD)
- Familiarity with military culture
- Experience with Veterans Affairs and VA education benefits: chapters: 31, 33, 35, 1606
- Experience advising students and families on military related education benefits
- Experience advising students on university and veteran resources
- Experience with social media platforms for outreach and marketing
- Experience with basic website updating
- Experience with broader community veteran support services like: VFW, VA Hospital, Marine Corps League and others
- Advanced proficiency in accounting, bill, debt, and refund calculations in accordance with Virginia Tech and Department of Veteran Affairs policies
- Knowledge of assessment and survey practices and data analysis
- Experience in a higher education setting
- Prior military service
Non-Exempt: Eligible for overtime
