Job Description

Serve as a part-time Office Assistant for the Global Strategic Services organization, a unit within Outreach and International Affairs (OIA), that supports Virginia Tech’s recruitment of top global faculty and researchers, in a fast paced, growth-oriented office environment. This is a part-time, 28 hour per week position. Must work 4 to 5 days per week. Job responsibilities include providing coordination of immigration case filings, database management, administrative and fiscal support for the unit, as well as assisting with planning and logistics for international and domestic guest visits to campus. The person in this position will utilize appropriate automated systems and databases to upload, enter and coordinate immigration case paperwork. Fiscal responsibilities include monthly reconciliations, procurement, and fixed asset coordination. This position also provides back-up support for administrative duties in the OIA suite.
The successful candidate will routinely interact with the public, VT colleagues, regional and international guests, and project a professional and service-oriented image for the office. Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. A positive and courteous presence and strong communication skills are critical.

Required Qualifications

Prior experience with program coordination
Prior experience with student visa coordination
Prior administrative and fiscal experience
Demonstrated database experience
Ability to organize and clearly present information
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel software
Customer service experience
Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple job duties
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and cultural sensitivity

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in event planning
Experience with university related systems such as VT Banner; procurement systems (HokieMart)
Experience in state and/or higher education
Experience working in a law or university international office handling immigration cases or a compliance driven office setting
