The Blackwood Department of Real Estate in the R. B. Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech invites applications for a Professor of Practice faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. We seek candidates with expertise in data analysis, market research, development, finance, and other areas who will contribute to the department’s mission through teaching and service. This is an exciting opportunity to join a strong department committed to ongoing growth.
The successful candidate will be expected to deliver high-quality instruction at the undergraduate level, participate in departmental, college, and university service activities, and remain active in professional associations. Appointment rank will be based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
Responsibilities include:
Teach and develop undergraduate courses within the Blackwood Department of Real Estate curriculum.
Understand and evaluate the research that applies to their field and incorporate this cutting-edge knowledge in their teaching.
Provide academic leadership and mentorship within the department.
Contribute to departmental, college, and university service and governance.
Support the strategic growth and visibility of the department’s academic programs and research initiatives.

The Blackwood Department of Real Estate is committed to academic excellence and innovation. It seeks to provide students with unique and interdisciplinary training that will help them emerge as real estate industry leaders. The programs offered by the department leverage university strengths in building construction, business, design, economics, engineering, entrepreneurship, environment, law, planning, and property management. The department also conducts cutting-edge research and provides relevant outreach to the real estate industry. Qualifications include a graduate degree (i.e., a master's degree or higher) in a field that incorporates quantitative methods or equivalent industry experience conducting and analyzing real estate financial and market data.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.
A successful candidate must be deemed an effective teacher at the undergraduate level.
The preferred candidate will have evidence of prior teaching experience through their professional employment, professional associations, in a formal academic setting, or relevant education venue.
The preferred candidate will have at least five years of experience conducting, leading and managing analysis of real estate financial and/or market data.
Preferred candidates will have experience with CoStar and other sources of real estate data.
Exempt: Not eligible for overtime
commensurate with experience
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
