The Human Resources Generalist will play a key role in coordinating, coaching, and executing HR initiatives across several functional areas, including classification and compensation, employee relations, performance management, recruitment and selection, onboarding, and compliance. Reporting to the Advancement Human Resources Director, this position provides versatile support within the Advancement division.
As part of the Advancement HR team, the Generalist will collaborate with leadership and staff to deliver human resources programs and services. They will work closely with hiring managers and business leaders to understand talent priorities and operational needs, crafting thoughtful and practical people-centric solutions. The role requires a high level of critical thinking and the ability to influence and navigate complex, sensitive situations.
Additionally, the Generalist will develop efficient methods for compiling and analyzing HR data to support reporting and special projects. The incumbent will also foster a positive, inclusive workplace by cultivating trusted relationships throughout Virginia Tech and the Advancement Division.
Master's degree in Human Resources or related field; or Bachelor's degree with experience equating to an advanced degree.
Previous experience providing HR support in an advanced HR Assistant, Coordinator or Generalist role.
Demonstrated working knowledge of HR principles and practices such as onboarding, employee relations, orientation and training, job analysis and evaluation, classification, compensation, recruitment, selection and performance management, equal opportunity and affirmative action, research, and policy interpretation.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, complex projects and day to day operations independently and proactively while meeting established deadlines.
Consulting experience in business and/or HR operations.
Proven experience in managing large scale programs.
Professional HR certification such as PHR, SPHR, CCP, etc.
HR experience in a college or university setting.
Previous experience working with Banner HRIS, PageUp or similar ATS.
Experience working with employment-based visa petitions and applications.
Exempt: Not eligible for overtime
Unable to sponsor work visas.
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
