Job Description

Reporting to the Associate Director of Design in the Facilities Design and Construction department in the Division of Facilities, the Design Review Architect will:
• Assist the Associate Director of Design in the design review and approval process for minor modifications, non-capital, and capital projects to ensure alignment with the university’s mission, vision, strategic goals, and initiatives.
• Work towards the enhancement of accessibility as it relates to the physical campus.
• Provides guidance related to campus design principles and the Design and Construction Standards Manual to design consultants and university user groups during project meetings and document reviews.

Required Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Architecture, or Bachelor of Architecture along with work experience equivalent to an advanced degree.
• Registration as a Professional Architect. Current registration in Virginia or demonstrated ability to be registered within 12 months of employment.
• A minimum of five years’ experience as an architect.
• Understanding of Historic Preservation and The Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Proficiency with current office computer software including word processing and spreadsheets. Proficient in the use of design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a university setting.
• Experience with Commonwealth of Virginia (or other public agency) directives and higher education facilities requirements.
• Knowledge of preservation architecture. Proficiency in accessible design.
• Understanding of sustainability initiatives and experience working on LEED accredited projects.
• Familiarity with AIM project management software.
