Title: Systems and Infrastructure Administrator

Position Purpose:

This position is responsible for and assists in the administration and management of enterprise systems. This includes the maintaining and provisioning of servers and storage systems. Successful candidates must demonstrate independent problem-solving skills, a high level of proficiency in operating systems administration and security, and an in-depth knowledge of networking. Will work collaboratively with department staff and vendors.

Job Duties:

  • Installs, configures, upgrades, and maintains server operating systems, applications, and system management tools.
  • Manages, maintains, and provisions physical and virtual servers and enterprise systems for services such as: Active Directory and OpenLDAP, VPN, DNS, anti-virus, encryption, network storage, database systems, operating system and application deployments, server and storage backups, network license managers, and network printing.
  • Participates in the monitoring of all enterprise systems and services.
  • Participates in weekly preventative maintenance (occurs outside of normal business hours).
  • Participates in the design, testing, and deployment of enterprise systems and services.
  • Configure and support operating system-based firewalls
  • Coordinates with vendors the installation of enterprise solutions and applications.
  • Works with computing, networking, and application vendors to evaluate, support, license, and ensure that all deployed applications and services are functioning as desinged.
  • Works collaboratively with other members of the Network and Infrastructure team and ILS.
  • Provides tier-three user support and troubleshooting

Additional Job Functions:

  • Keeps current with the rapidly evolving and changing business of computer hardware, enterprise storage solutions, operating systems and applications, network application software and peripheral hardware.
  • Google Domain Administration
  • Knowledge of cloud-based computing resources (AWS, Google Cloud, MS Azure)
  • Knowledge of high-performance computing
  • Participates in the research, planning, testing, and deployment of new enterprise services.
  • Evaluates/recommends potential purchases
  • Will regularly cross-train with other members of Network and Infrastructure Services team.
  • Serves on college committees as assigned.
  • Will routinely require early morning or after-hours work; weekend work is occasionally required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

Bachelor’s degree in a field related to assignment or equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience

  • Experience troubleshooting multi-platform workstation hardware/software issues
  • Experience troubleshooting networking issues
  • Experience troubleshooting software applications
  • Experience working with diverse customer groups in an academic setting
  • Experience with other operating systems: MS Windows OS’s, Apple OS’s, ChromeOS, Linux
  • Experience with the monitoring of enterprise systems in a complex environment a plus
  • Experience with end-user support

Skills and Knowledge

  • In-depth expertise of desktop and server operating environment, Active Directory and Group Policy administration
  • Knowledge of anti-virus solutions, licensing software, enterprise management solutions and directory services, including OpenLDAP
  • Knowledge of scripting languages
  • Participation in the planning, evaluation, testing, implementation, and documentation of technology solutions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to convey computing concepts effectively to non-technical users
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and serve as a positive role model in stressful situations
  • A valid driver’s license
