Job Summary:

This role is responsible for advanced accounting functions in support of the College’s financial reporting, annual financial statement audit, and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements. This position plays a key role in maintaining audit schedules, preparing and documenting supporting workpapers, and assisting with the development and implementation of GASB adjustments for the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and works closely with internal departments, external auditors, and finance leadership to ensure accurate financial records, timely audit responses, and adherence to applicable federal, state, and institutional accounting requirements.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Performance Requirements*
⦁ Maintains, updates, and reconciles detailed schedules supporting the College’s monthly financial statements and ACFR
⦁ Serves as a primary point of contact for external auditors for assigned areas, including responding to audit requests, explaining balances, and providing supporting documentation
⦁ Analyzes the impact of new or revised GASB pronouncements on the College’s financial statements and assists in implementation planning
⦁ Reconciles general ledger accounts and subsidiary ledgers; investigates and resolves variances in a timely manner
⦁ Assists with month-end and year-end close processes, including the preparation and posting of journal entries
⦁ Collaborates with other finance team members to ensure consistent accounting treatment and accurate financial reporting
⦁ Participates in special projects, policy development, and process documentation related to financial reporting and audit readiness

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related business administration field and three (3) years’ working experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements, or any equivalent combination of education and work-related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

⦁ Master’s Degree in Accounting
⦁ Current Certified Public Accountant or active CPA candidate
⦁ At least one (1) year’s working experience in accounting for public higher education or a GASB-regulated entity
⦁ At least one (1) year’s working experience preparing audit schedules and supporting external financial statement audits

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

⦁ Knowledge of governmental accounting and financial reporting
⦁ Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, including strong listening, verbal, and written communication to explain accounting issues to non-accountants
⦁ Skilled in using computerized accounting applications and enterprise systems, including the Microsoft Office suite and Microsoft Excel to perform complex formulas and reconciliations
⦁ Ability to analyze data and provide sound recommendations based on policy, procedure, practice, and existing regulations while exhibiting strong attention to detail and organization
⦁ Ability to interpret and apply GASB guidance to real-world accounting scenarios
⦁ Ability to manage multiple deadlines and maintain accuracy in a deadline-driven audit environment
⦁ Ability to work outside normal hours in support of year-end close and audit periods
⦁ Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly while exhibiting strong attention to detail, organization, and compliance
