Department Summary & Job Purpose:

The Alumnae Association of Mount Holyoke College uplifts Mount Holyoke alums and builds a community that fosters lifelong learning and empowers impactful connections. 

To broaden and deepen alum involvement through rewarding and mission-aligned volunteer opportunities supporting Mount Holyoke College. Our work expands the horizons for Mount Holyoke students of all identities and strengthens the alum network and their ties with the College.

Core Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

Alum volunteer program design

  • Ensure that volunteer programming and outcomes embody the Association and College’s core commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Develop a system for tracking current alum volunteer opportunities needs at Mount Holyoke College, and matching system
  • Develop content and materials for communications and training related to volunteers
  • Design compelling short-term volunteer opportunities that invite and enable the participation of more Mount Holyoke alums
  • Track metrics on volunteering at Mount Holyoke to help guide programmatic decisions

Alum volunteer pipeline development, recognition, and stewardship

  • Lead planning, refinement, and execution of core annual volunteer training curriculum
  • Develop and enhance volunteer training materials
  • Develop meaningful ways to recognize and celebrate volunteer service
  • Create and maintain a robust pipeline of alums to recommend for volunteer roles

Partnerships and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as staff lead for the Volunteer Experience Committee
  • Serve as the Alumnae Association’s business lead for the Volunteer Hub
  • Supervise Alumnae Association student workers for relevant projects as needed
  • Partner with Association staff and College partners on key initiatives and opportunities that arise to further the Association’s mission and priorities
  • Support major events, such as Reunion
  • Other duties, as requested

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3–5 years of experience in volunteer training and management
  • Outstanding written communication and public speaking skills
  • Effective writing and communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse constituents
  • Strong managerial skills, including the ability to recruit, train, engage, steward, recognize, and lead volunteers toward meeting shared goals
  • Ability to prioritize and thrive in a fast-paced work environment
  • Experience with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn platforms and databases such as PeopleGrove and SharePoint
  • Discretion and professionalism to work with highly confidential information

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred experience in alum relations or higher education
  • Experience with Colleague, iModules, PeopleGrove and SharePoint
  • Experience working with virtual communities is a plus
  • US Driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle

License/Certifications:

  • US Driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle is a plus

Physical Demands: 

  • Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas utilizing the spoken word. Those activities in which employee must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Sufficient speech clarity is required, including those that permit the employee to discern verbal instructions and communicate effectively in person and by telephone.
  • Employee talks in front of large groups occasionally.
  • The employee speaks with alums, students, and faculty by telephone, e-mail, or in person daily.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and make discriminations sound.
  • Repetitive motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.
  • Employee operates office equipment and computers to perform essential duties and
    Responsibilities.
  • Employee is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles.

Working Conditions: 

  • Occasional evening and weekend work (minimum 3 weekends per year)
  • Occasional travel (less than 25%)

  • None – possibly student and temporary workers during reunion and other large events
