Job Summary:

The Government Information Library Associate supports the StARL team in establishing a proactive service culture to ensure patrons have expedited, accurate and relevant access to both physical and online collections that tell the story of Arizona and the United States' history and government by:

1. Working with the Government Information Librarian to support the daily work of providing both physical and digital access to the State Publications Collection and the Federal Documents collection by processing new materials, uploading bibliographic and authority records, performing collection maintenance duties, and assisting with digitization projects.
2. Providing essential customer service support in the Reading Room (answering phones, registering visitors upon arrival, directing researchers to appropriate reference staff). Providing support to the Research Library's Interlibrary Loan needs.

This position is a part of the State of Arizona Research Library team at the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records, reporting to the Government Information Librarian.

Job Duties:

- Support the State Publications and Federal Documents collections. Check in and process new materials in multiple formats. Responsible for uploading records to the Research Library catalog, shelving of materials, assisting with the planning and execution of weeding and collection maintenance projects, digitizing items, and other special projects that enhance the discoverability of the collections.
- Provide researcher support in the Rosenbaum Reading Room, including answering phones, registering researchers, and directing researchers to reference staff. Provides support to the Research Library's Interlibrary Loan needs.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
- Library cataloging, classification, and metadata standards
- Understanding of digital formats, techniques, and equipment
- Expertise in computer usage, such as word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, email, social media

Skill in:
- Skilled with copy-cataloging
- Skilled with basic scanning and digitization techniques
- Excellent customer service skills

Ability to:
- Work effectively in a team environment with diverse groups of people, including both technical and non-technical staff
- Effective verbal and written communication
- Follow written instructions.
- Perform repetitive tasks.
- Lift up to 30 pounds

Selective Preference(s):

- Some college required; prefer a bachelor's degree.
- Interest in state and federal government, and Arizona history.

Retirement:

To help you build a financially secure future, the State makes monthly contributions to finance your retirement benefit. The State will contribute to the ASRS in an amount equal to your contribution.
