Job Summary/Basic Functions
The Coordinator of Adventure Programs, Climbing Wall and Challenge Course, is responsible for a comprehensive challenge course and team building program and the management of the indoor climbing wall.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in Leadership, Recreation, Education, Natural Sciences or related field is required.
Experience: One year of directly related work experience required, including 200 or more hours of experience as a Challenge Ropes Course facilitator OR documentation of 40 hours of training and 100 hours of program delivery at a challenge course including low and high ropes elements.
Licensure & Certifications: • First Aid and CPR certification required, Instructor Required within first 6 months. • Climbing Wall Instructor preferred (CWI) • Level II Challenge Course certification preferred • Wilderness First Responder Certification preferred

Job Duties:
45% - Lead Challenge Course Operations • Oversee Challenge Course promotion, registration, staffing, risk management and operation. • Provide leadership and ensure safe operation of all areas of the Challenge Course including the ATC, Tower, Low course, storage shed and pavilion, and surrounding green spaces. • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate Challenge Course staff. • Create productive training for challenge course employees that focuses on safety, facilitation, creative, and educational programming. • Conduct routine in-services to ensure quality of staff and standards in maintained • Manage Challenge Course reservations and facilitate positive group experience throughout the registration and challenge course experience. • Coordinate team-building program opportunities to the community. • Develop and maintain a budget that shows the revenue generated through the challenge course • Forecast expenditures for maintenance, staff payroll and equipment purchasing from challenge course revenue generation. • Keep up-to-date operating standards and maintenance records of the challenge course - Facilitate regular inspections through ACCT accredited vendors, as well as adhering to KY Dept of Agriculture Division of Regulation and Inspection standards • Facilitate regular inspections through ACCT accredited vendors, as well as adhering to KY Dept of Agriculture Division of Regulation and Inspection standards • Facilitate, maintain, and assess user experiences at the challenge course • Benchmark with related institutions and programs to ensure Challenge Course are safe and competitive with other top performing institutions. - (Essential)
45% - Lead Climbing Wall Operations • Oversee Climbing Wall promotion, staffing, risk management and operation. • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate Climbing Wall staff. • Conduct routine in-services to ensure quality of staff and standards in maintained • Determine and communicate operating hours, route setting, maintenance, and inspection schedule. • Continually evaluate and assess feedback from wall users through survey, observation, and analysis of usage patters • Conduct climbing specific workshops for students, faculty and staff. • Conduct special events for students, faculty/staff, and community members • Facilitate regular inspections • Ensure proper documentation of user waivers, including belay orientation completion • Maintain equipment condition and inventory • Keep up-to-date operating standards and maintenance records of the climbing wall and equipment • Ensure compliance with best practice standards for climbing wall operation. - (Essential)
10% - Additional Responsibilities • Work with student marketing team to develop and implement marketing plan for the challenge course and climbing wall. This is to include: regional K-12 schools, corporate groups, community groups and organizations, students, faculty and staff. • Maintain website for the challenge course and climbing wall. • Assist with departmental orientations, facility tours, in-service programs, and special events offered by Campus Recreation and EKU divisional events. • Work cohesively with various on and off campus to enhance EKU presence throughout the region. • Ensure program compliance with department and university policies and procedures • Assist in department wide staff trainings, including CPR/AED/FA certification courses • Serve on university committees and task force’s • Participate in departmental and divisional staff planning meetings • Other duties as assigned - (Essential)
