Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Department of Teaching Learning and Educational Leadership at Eastern Kentucky University invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher Preparation for Academic Year 2025-2026. Applicants should hold an earned Ph.D. or Ed.D. related to Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education (including Critical Studies in Deaf Education, Deaf Studies and Deaf Education, Special/Exceptional Education, or Applied Linguistics, etc.) from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. ABD applicants may be considered but must have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. (verified by official transcripts) at the time of appointment. Applicants should have experience teaching Deaf, Hard of Hearing and/or DeafBlind children. 

The position begins August, 2025.

The position will serve as the primary faculty and program coordinator of DHH students in the B.S. Elementary DHH, Middle Grades DHH, M.A.T. DHH, and MAED DHH programs. It requires teacher certification relevant Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. The successful candidate will teach classes online and in person.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in a 4/4 annual teaching load, develop and maintain an active scholarly agenda, conduct academic advising/program coordination, and participate in service to the department, university, and community. In addition, membership and participation in state, regional, national, or international professional organizations is recommended.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Applicants should hold an earned Ph.D. or Ed.D. related to Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education (including Critical Studies in Deaf Education, Deaf Studies and Deaf Education, Special/Exceptional Education, or Applied Linguistics, etc.) from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. ABD applicants may be considered but must have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. (verified by official transcripts) at the time of appointment.

Experience:

Four years of related experience is required.

Licensure & Certifications: Teacher certification related to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.

Preferred Qualifications:

• ASL proficiency
• Certified by the Council of Educators for the Deaf
• Experience in P-12 including supervising and mentoring clinical teaching students
• Experience in higher education
• Experience with scholarly presentations and publications

Job Duties:

• Maintain a 4/4 teaching load (unless given reassigned time), teaching courses as assigned at the times and in the locations necessary to meet the needs of EKU students • Coordinate clinical placements • Coordinate program through advising, implementing formal curriculum changes, collecting and reporting program review and accreditation assessment data • Utilize effective teaching methods, innovative teaching techniques, and teaching modalities, and multiple evaluation and assessment procedures as a means to help meet the needs of EKU students • Demonstrate the ability to teach, develop, and implement courses related to one’s curricular area • Develop and maintain an active research agenda • Keep up to date with one’s field and curricular areas by reading and reviewing current scholarly or creative works and by attending conferences, seminars, workshops, courses, and faculty development activities • Fulfilling program, departmental, college, and university committee assignments • Demonstrate the willingness and ability to work effectively with colleagues to support the mission of EKU, its academic units, and its campus community
