Job Summary/Basic Functions

The College of Business at Eastern Kentucky University is seeking enthusiastic applicants for an Assistant Professor of Marketing (Sales Focus) and Director of the Berman Center for Professional Sales position beginning Spring 2025 or Fall 2025. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a vision and leadership for the Berman Center for Professional Sales. The candidate should be active in fundraising, annual reporting, budget management, attaining and maintaining USCA certification, and leading students in sales competitions. Additionally, this individual will help with the potential development of a sales concentration in the marketing program; maintain appropriate schedule of office hours for student access and inquiry; work in partnership with student success personnel on student advising and orientation; and participate in institutional service roles such as, but not limited to, college committees, club sponsorship, advisory committees, and student/faculty recruitment.

Teaching: Develop, implement, and review effective teaching/learning processes, incorporating appropriate methodology, technology, and other tools. Remain current in discipline and update course content when appropriate to reflect current levels of student knowledge in the discipline. Develop a system for ongoing evaluation of both teaching and learning, including expectations of student competency and student learning outcomes. Work in partnership with immediate supervisor through a formal system of evaluation of instruction to identify strengths and weaknesses and identify professional development activities to improve student learning. Courses can include undergraduate and graduate courses in Marketing, including, but not limited to, Marketing Essentials, Consumer Behavior, Professional Selling, Sales Management, Business-to-Business Sales and Marketing, and Advanced Sales. Teaching and research experience in sales topics and marketing analytics is considered optimal.

The teaching load is two courses per semester as long as Scholarly Academic (SA) status is maintained. The individual may be afforded the opportunity to develop courses in their area(s) of interest. The individual will assist Marketing faculty with program development, assessment, expansion of course offerings, and support for University signature programs such as the Berman Center for Professional Sales, the Marketing Research and Analytics Program, Music Marketing Program, and the PGA Golf Management Program. Faculty are expected to teach on the campus in Richmond, Kentucky, and online via EKU Online. Summer and Winter teaching is typically available but is contingent upon University funding and demand.

Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity: Demonstrate a record of ongoing research, scholarship, or creative activity appropriate to your academic discipline.

Service: Participate in institutional service roles such as, but not limited to, college committees, club sponsorship, advisory committees, and student/faculty recruitment.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: PhD or DBA in Sales or Marketing with a focus in sales from an AACSB accredited institution. Candidate must demonstrate a commitment to impact, innovation, and engagement in teaching, service, and intellectual contributions to the discipline and have a strong desire to be a collegial member of the College of Business.

Preferred candidates for the assistant professor of marketing position are expected to have several years of industry experience in marketing, sales, or related fields. They should bring valuable, real-world insights into the development of the sales course curriculum and build strong connections between the sales program and corporations, fostering partnerships with businesses and engaging with the broader community.

Job Duties:

  • 30% - Teaching and Course Development - The selected candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in marketing, with a particular focus on sales or related subjects. They will develop syllabi and create course materials tailored to these areas. Additionally, they will provide mentorship and support to students, including advising on academic progress and career planning, particularly for those pursuing careers in sales and related fields. - (Essential)
  • 30% - Research and Scholarly Activities - The assistant professor of marketing will be expected to conduct original research in marketing, aiming for publication in high-quality, peer-reviewed academic journals. They will also present their research at conferences and engage in activities that contribute to the academic reputation of the institution. - (Essential)
  • 40% - Service to Berman Center for Professional Sales - As the Executive Director of the Berman Center for Professional Sales, this position will provide strategic leadership and vision, actively guiding the Center’s mission. Responsibilities include fundraising, overseeing annual reporting, managing the budget, and pursuing and maintaining USCA certification. The director will also lead students in sales competitions and support the development of a potential sales concentration within the marketing program. Additionally, the candidate will maintain office hours for student inquiries, collaborate with student success personnel on advising and orientation, and engage in institutional service through participation in college committees, advisory boards, and student/faculty recruitment efforts. - (Essential)
