Job Summary/Basic Functions

The EKU School of Aviation invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor for Academic Year 2025-2026. Applicants should hold an earned Master's degree in an Aviation, Aerospace, Aeronautical Science, or relevant business, engineering, safety or other aviation related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. The position begins August 2025.

The position serves Aviation majors. The successful candidate will have three or more recent years of Aviation industry and/or academic experience. Preference will be given to candidates with experience with a University FAR Part 141 Flight Training program. Preference will be given to candidates with an FAA pilot license (Private, Instrument, Commercial, Certified Flight Instructor (CFI), Multi-Engine, Certified Flight Instructor - Instrument (CFI-I), Multi-engine Instructor) or FAA Part 107 Drone license.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate aviation courses in a 4/4 annual teaching load. Additional responsibilities include: developing and maintaining an active scholarly agenda; conducting advising for Professional Flight, Aerospace Management and Unmanned Aircraft Systems students; monitoring overall student progress; serving as faculty advisor for student organizations; developing and fostering aviation industry connections; participating in curriculum implementation, revision, and evaluation; participating in recruitment events; and participating in other service to the department, university, and community.

In addition to appropriate teaching credentials, the candidate must also possess a commitment to teaching excellence, service and scholarship. The successful applicant must have excellent written and oral communication skills and must be committed to the continuous improvement process and the outcome-based assessment of the programs.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Earned Master's degree in an Aviation, Aerospace, Aeronautical Science, or relevant business, engineering, safety or other aviation related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment.

Experience: Three or more recent years of Aviation industry and/or academic experience.

Job Duties:

  • Maintain a 4/4 teaching load, teaching courses as assigned at the times and in the locations necessary to meet the needs of EKU students.
  • Utilize effective teaching methods, innovative teaching techniques, and teaching modalities, and multiple evaluation and assessment procedures as a means to help meet the needs of EKU students.
  • Demonstrate the ability to teach, develop, and implement courses related to one's curricular area.
  • Develop and maintain an active research agenda.
  • Keep up to date with one's field and curricular areas by reading and reviewing current scholarly or creative works and by attending conferences, seminars, workshops, courses, and faculty development activities.
  • Advise students in fulfilling program requirements.
  • Demonstrate the willingness and ability to work effectively with colleagues to support the mission of EKU, its academic units, and its campus community.
