Job Summary/Basic Functions

This position is responsible for coordinating mental health services for NCAA student-athletes, providing some direct counseling and mental performance training to individuals and teams, and collaborating with other units within the athletics department and university to establish policies to promote a culture of health and well-being.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling or Psychology (doctoral degree preferred)

Experience: • One year of related counseling experience is required (can include doctoral internship)
• Must have experience and training in time-limited modalities, knowledge of the psychological and developmental needs of college students
• Must possess skills and experience with individual and group counseling, outreach programming, the use of standard diagnostic assessment tools and supervision
• Includes evening and weekend work as needed

Licensure & Certifications: • Must be licensed or license-eligible in the state of Kentucky by the time of employment
• Must be fully licensed within the first 18 months of employment
• Experience working in a college athletics setting, preferably NCAA Division I

Preferred Qualifications:

 

Job Duties:

  • 50% - Provide mental health counseling to student-athletes requesting services that are within the identified scope of practice/license. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Work collaboratively with co-treating providers (i.e., sports medicine, sports performance, nutrition), and the EKU Integrated Behavioral Health unit to manage referrals for student-athletes needing clinical mental health treatment. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Other duties as assigned - (Essential)
  • 10% - Contribute to the development and delivery of educational programming on mental health issues and wellness topics. - (Essential)
  • 20% - Assist with student-athlete performance training from a mental health services perspective to student athletes request services within scope of practice/license. - (Essential)
