Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Center for Retention, Progression, and Graduation (RPG) in the College of Health Sciences (CHS) at Eastern Kentucky University seeks to hire students from any major in the College as Learning Assistants for Fall 2025. Learning Assistants (LAs) will support student learning in all areas of CHS, including nursing, occupational therapy, exercise science, pre-professional, and other majors as needed. Each LA will work with individual’s instructor, department chairs, and Center for RPG Personnel to facilitate in-class and/or out-of-class learning experiences. Specific duties will vary based on the course, the LA’s areas of expertise, and students’ learning needs. LA’s work on-campus with students one-on-one and in small groups and may also facilitate workshops on problem-solving strategies, study skills, exam preparation, and related topics. Additional duties will include active participation in weekly staff meetings, active participation in biweekly professional development workshops, and some tutoring in this subject area. Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Applicants must be full-time students at EKU, have completed at least one General Education II course (Quantitative Reasoning) or General Education IV course (Natural Sciences), and be in good academic standing with the University. As well as indication they are admitted to the program of the study.

Preferred Qualifications:

A successful candidate will also possess a strong understanding of course level content in at least one area of CHS. And an interest in cultivating student learning in CHS, strong communication skills, a passion for working with students, and the willingness to be an energetic and reliable student representative of the Center for RPG. A minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred.
