Job Summary/Basic Functions

Plays a critical role in the efficient functioning of the University’s legal office by providing executive-level administrative, operational, and organizational support for the Office of University Counsel and supports the Office of Government and Community Relations as needed.

This position serves as the primary administrative liaison for the Office of General Counsel, coordinating legal operations, managing office workflows, maintaining records, and supporting attorneys in their day-to-day responsibilities. The Legal Coordinator ensures smooth office operations and is a central point of contact for internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities include legal document management, workflow, budget oversight, Board of Regents meetings preparation, intake triage for legal matters and contracts, and coordination across EKU departments. Requires high discretion, confidentiality, initiative, and professionalism.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Associate’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience: Five years of responsible clerical, customer services, and secretarial and/or administrative support is required.

Job Duties:

  • 50% - Provide comprehensive support to the Office of University Counsel, including document preparation and review, optimization of processes, maintaining confidentiality, supervising support and student staff, assisting in document collection for records requests or legal matters, and acting as liaison to external legal and governmental entities. - (Essential)
  • 40% - Track the status of legal matters, contracts for review, and other issues, using identified systems or software, and manage and monitor the departmental budgets and legal services contracts, including analyzing, advising, and summarizing data for budgets and/or reports, including responding to insurance carriers regarding status and ongoing costs in open claims. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Provide executive-level administrative assistance in support of the Board of Regents meetings, as necessary. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Other duties as assigned by Office of University Counsel and Office of Government and Community Relations - (Essential)
