Job Summary/Basic Functions
Model Lab School Early Childhood Teacher - To plan, organize, and implement world-class educational programs in a P-12 laboratory school environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential, and helps the school and University meet established goals. To ensure that each student will grow to his/her greatest intellectual ability, emotional development and psychological well-being. Additionally, the teacher will mentor and instruct university students working and observing at Model for experiential learning assignments.

Job Duties:
100% - Meets and instructs assigned classes in the location and at the times designated. • Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students • Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved • Strives to implement, by instruction and action, the Laboratory School philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required - (Essential)
% - • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, school and university policy, and administrative regulation • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for volunteers and substitute teachers • Attends staff meetings and participates on School and University committees. Membership in appropriate professional organizations is encouraged • Follows all University policies, procedures and Institutional Review Board guidelines, and adheres to Model Lab policies and procedures as outline in the Model Laboratory School faculty handbook • Responsible for cooperation with students, professional associates, parents, staff, community groups, as well as University faculty, staff and administration • Cooperates fully with all investigations conducted by the University and the School as authorized by policy or law • Responsive and available for parent conferences and those conference should be scheduled as soon as possible and/or as needed • Participates in the School’s graduation exercises, when required, including wearing appropriate academic regalia • Knows and remains updated regarding early childhood teaching and childcare laws and requirements, and ensures compliance - (Essential)
% - • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence • Maintains regular attendance • Demonstrates progress in teaching, scholarship and service in areas related to education and departmental goals. Such productivity could include but is not limited to preparation and dissemination of curriculum materials, action research, published article/research, submission of a grant proposal, or presentation at professional conference • Performs other duties as assigned - (Essential)
