Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Head Coach is responsible for the administration of a Division I intercollegiate Program that complies with the mission, guidelines, rules and regulations of the University, the conference, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). More specifically, this person is responsible for, but not limited to, coaching, competition scheduling, travel arrangements, recruiting, monitoring student-athlete academic progress, interacting with internal and external constituents, administration of camps/clinics, and other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and/or sport administrator.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree is required

Experience: Five years of experience in Division I collegiate coaching. Knowledge of NCAA rules, tennis fundamentals, conducting practices and game management.

Job Duties:

  • 30% - Recruiting : - Oversee the identification and evaluation (athletic abilities, academic abilities, and character) of prospective student-athletes (PSAs) who have a high probability of graduating from EKU - Travel to evaluate PSAs - Oversee PSA official and unofficial campus visits - Conduct and oversee permissible contact with PSAs and their family members - (Essential)
  • 25% - Practices (Player and Team Development): - Responsible for planning the structure of, developing the schedule for, and conducting all practices and individual workouts - Responsible for working with all tennis student-athletes to improve their individual skills and the performance of the team as a unit - Develop goals for players based on their abilities and the needs of the team - Assist the Strength and Conditioning Coach in implementing the strength and conditioning program - (Essential)
  • 15% - Competition: - Management of pre-match, in-match, and post-match team activities - (Essential)
  • 10% - Student-Athlete Academic Progress: - Assist the SAAS Center staff in monitoring evening study lab - Support all efforts by the SAAS Center staff to assist student-athlete progress toward a degree - Monitor the academic progress through the SAAS Center staff - Continuously stress the importance of graduation to student-athletes - (Essential)
  • 5% - Other Duties as Assigned by sports admin and athletic director. - (Marginal)
  • 5% - General Administrative: - In conjunction with the Director of Athletics, arrange a competitive match schedule within the approved budget - Oversee the selection, purchase, fitting, and maintenance of team equipment and apparel - Oversee all team travel arrangements - Administer camps and clinics - Participate in public relations activities including, but not limited to, speaking engagements, appearances, interviews, and press conferences as approved and reasonably requested by the Athletics Public Relations staff. - Represent the Department of Athletics at professional, civic, charitable, and alumni events - Oversee and support team community service involvement (e.g., team representation on the EKU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee) - (Marginal)
