Department Summary:

Drake University's Athletics Department competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference at the NCAA Division I FCS level. Bulldog student-athletes thrive in the classroom and their respective field of play. Drake Athletics sport programs are considered Des Moines’ Hometown Team.

Job Summary:

Drake University is seeking an Assistant Rowing Coach to join its athletics department. The successful candidate will support a positive academic, athletic, and social environment for student-athletes while creating a culture of excellence and ethics. Prior college coaching experience required.

Skills Needed:
• Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
• Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information.
• Ability to build rapport and students, faculty and staff.
• Skills to help student-athletes improve through training / coaching.
• Proficiency to produce scouting reports, recruiting evaluations and complete work within deadlines.
• Ability to develop and sustain relationships with prospective student athletes, parents, and coaches.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Knowledge and basic proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel
• Knowledge of applicable NCAA Rules and regulations.
• Experience rowing at the collegiate level preferred.
• Coaching experience at the collegiate or professional level preferred.

Job Duties:

  • 25% - Assist with organizing and executing all practice sessions - (Essential)
  • 20% - Explain and demonstrate principles and techniques in the sport - (Essential)
  • 20% - Assist with the recruitment of student athletes - (Essential)
  • 10% - Assist with the management and coordination of the rowing program - (Essential)
  • 10% - Assist with the organization and conduct of competitions and Regattas - (Essential)
  • 10% - Assist and enforce safety rules and regulations - (Essential)
  • 5% - Demonstrate appropriate communication related to internal (coaching staff, student-athletes, athletic staff) and external (fans, parents, alumni, prospects, campus community, etc.) groups - (Essential)
