Job Summary:

The Drake University Leadership & Counseling Department invites applications for an adjunct instructor position. This position will be responsible for teaching a three-credit graduate section of COUN 263 Counseling Children and Adolescents . This is School Counseling specific course, which is also an elective CMHC students, focuses on foundational knowledge and practical skills for counseling children and adolescents. The course covers principles, techniques, and ethical considerations involved in counseling children and adolescents, developmental stages, common emotional and behavioral issues, and evidence-based interventions tailored to young clients.

The successful candidate will teach a full section of the course during the Summer 2026 term. The instructor is responsible for developing the course content and teach the course in the Summer as an in-person course. The instructor is responsible for delivering course content, facilitating activities, and grading assignments. This course is required of all students specializing in School Counseling.

Minimum Qualifications:

A minimum of a master’s degree in school counseling and school counseling experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in school counseling and 5+ years school counseling experience.

Job Duties:

  • 60% - Deliver content related to School Counseling Programming 
  • 15% - Monitor and document individual student progress 
  • 10% - Facilitate discussion of relevant issues 
  • 5% - Create new course content and readings as needed 
  • 5% - Provide final grades for students according to the university calendar
  • 5% - Adjust the pre-developed curriculum and textbook/article choices as needed
