Drake University's Athletics Department competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference at the NCAA Division I FCS level. Bulldog student-athletes thrive in the classroom and their respective field of play. Drake Athletics sport programs are considered Des Moines’ Hometown Team.

Job Summary:

Drake University Athletics is seeking candidates for a Second Assistant Rowing Coach. Responsibilities will include coaching team members in principles and techniques of the sport. In addition, the position will have opportunities in recruiting student-athletes to Drake Rowing. The assistant coach will assist in organizing and conducting competition regattas. The position will work with administrative coordination of the program. Along with entire coaching staff, enforce safety rules and regulations.

Skills Needed:
• Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
• Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information.
• Ability to build rapport and students, faculty and staff.
• Skills to help student-athletes improve through training / coaching.
• Proficiency to produce scouting reports, recruiting evaluations and complete work within deadlines.
• Ability to develop and sustain relationships with prospective student athletes, parents, and coaches.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Knowledge and basic proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel
• Knowledge of applicable NCAA Rules and regulations.
• 0-1 years of experience in college and/or high school coaching.

Job Duties:

All of the job duties described below require an understanding of and compliance with the rules of the NCAA, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, and Drake University.

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:

• 25% - Assist with organizing and executing all practice sessions - (Essential)
• 20% - Explain and demonstrate principles and techniques in the sport - (Essential)
• 20% - Assist with the recruitment of student athletes - (Essential)
• 10% - Assist with the management and coordination of the rowing program - (Essential)
• 10% - Assist with the organization and conduct of competitions and Regattas - (Essential)
• 10% - Assist and enforce safety rules and regulations - (Essential)
• 5% - Demonstrate appropriate communication related to internal (coaching staff, student-athletes, athletic staff) and external (fans, parents, alumni, prospects, campus community, etc.) groups - (Essential)
•  Performs other duties as assigned - (Essential)
