Job Summary:

The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (https://www.drake.edu/hs/) at Drake University invites applications for an adjunct clinical instructor in the Accelerated Bachelors of Science in Nursing (ABSN) Program beginning October 1st of 2026. We seek candidates who will be knowledgeable and committed to providing rigorous and engaging learning experiences for undergraduate nursing students enrolled in the fall 2026 clinical practicum course for acute care rotations. Responsibilities include leading pre and post-conference discussions, creating student patient assignments, providing clinical supervision and guidance, assisting students and precepting RNs as needed, utilizing Drake’s learning management system (LMS), providing direct feedback to students and preceptors, collaborating with Drake course faculty to assess student performance and otherwise assessing student learning. This position includes dedicated time for instructor orientation to the Drake ABSN program and applicable Drake systems.

Specific courses linked to this position include:
• NURS 185 (5 credits) – Care Management Concepts I
o This is the first clinical course for students in the Drake ABSN Program, comprised of 200 total hours of lab, simulation, and clinical practicum experiences.
o Fall 2026 Class Schedule: W/R/F or as scheduled, times are varied by practicum site.

The Adjunct Clinical Instructor is responsible for the clinical education of students in the ABSN undergraduate program. Candidates must have the ability to work with students in both one-on-one and group instruction situations.

To thrive in this role the individual will have strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) to interact with and work effectively with other faculty, staff, unit RNs, and students in a positive, helpful, and cooperative working relationship. The successful candidate will have organizational and time management skills to keep materials in order, adhere to course and program policies, stay on track with the syllabus schedule, maintain documentation records, and follow through on assignments to completion. They will also have the initiative and ability to work independently while thriving in a setting requiring collaboration and teamwork for maximal efficiency and effectiveness.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION: Minimum requirement of a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Master’s degree in nursing preferred.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 2 years of bedside RN experience. Previous teaching experience in clinical, lab, or simulation setting is preferred.
OTHER ESSENTIAL TRAINING AND SKILLS: Current unencumbered RN license in the state of Iowa, current BLS certification. A commitment to academic excellence; advanced knowledge of health care and/or nursing practice and evidence-based practice; excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communications skills.
