About the Department:

The Freedom Aquatic & Fitness Center opened in September 1999 and is one of the largest facilities of its type in Northern Virginia. Located on the Science and Technology campus in Prince William county of George Mason University, the 110,000 square foot facility features a 50-meter competition pool; leisure pool; whirlpool; locker facilities and family locker rooms; gymnasium with two practice courts; cardiovascular and strength training equipment; group fitness, mind/body and spin studios; three racquetball/activity courts; community room and classroom and outdoor field and sand volleyball court.

About the Position:

George Mason University, Freedom Aquatic and Fitness Center, is looking for an enthusiastic and energetic person for a Masters Swim Coach to teach all levels of our swim program. Responsibilities:

  • Teaches and coaches Masters Swim program at all levels. 

Required Qualifications:

  • High School or GED Diploma, College Degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Outstanding customer service skills;
  • Ability to work in a wet pool environment;
  • Effective communication skills in English. Ability to communicate with adult swimmers, coaches, and Freedom Center management verbally and in email;
  • Current US Masters Swimming (USMS) Member or membership acquired prior to employment;
  • USMS Certified Level 1 or higher Coach within 2 months of accepting the position. USMS Certified Level 2 Coach or higher preferred;
  • Prior swimming experience with an understanding of swim technique and the ability to adapt technique and communication method for each participant based on their limitations; and
  • Ability to develop and direct swim workouts for adults with varying abilities, physical limitations, and fitness goals including Pool Competition, Open Water Competition, Triathlon Competition, and Fitness Swimming. Ability to teach swimming skills to athletes preparing for Military entry swim tests a plus.
