Position Summary

The Athletics Outreach and Events Specialist is responsible for organizing and supervising community engagement efforts and athletic game management. The Outreach and Events Specialist coordinates engagement activities with the athletic department and local community organizations. In addition, the specialist attends recruitment events to promote athletics. The Outreach and Events Specialist provides support to game-day operations for all teams and assists with facilities maintenance and preparation. The specialist also assists with apparel design, ordering, maintenance, distribution, and collection.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Prepare athletic facilities for practice, home contests, tournaments and events to include: equipment set-up, equipment breakdown, field preparation, safety, and maintenance, and rules compliance. Liaise with appropriate staff and vendors for troubleshooting and repairs. Attend the majority of home contests and perform game tasks such as operation of scoreboards, compiling game statistics, field maintenance, crowd control, and public address announcing. Serve as liaison for coaches, student-athletes, spectators, and officials

Coordinate efforts with local community organizations to schedule engagement and service opportunities surrounding athletic programs. Collaborate with AACC staff to create game day experiences for college clubs and organizations. Establish and maintain a list of contacts of local community organizations for information dissemination. Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for community visitors and when performing recruitment activities.

Responsible for attendance at recruitment events to promote AACC Athletics. Serve as the department contact for AACC Traveling Road Show, Welcome Week, Student Involvement Fair, Open House and other opportunities as deemed necessary. Determine additional opportunities for recruitment and prepare materials for promotion. Assigns staff to attend when not available to personally attend.

Manage the varsity men's and women's athletic locker rooms, including preparing, cleaning out and assigning lockers, changing locks, and coordinating daily practice apparel laundry services. Perform laundry services, including washing, drying, folding, hanging and delivering laundry to the lockers. Establish uniform distribution and collection plans with all head coaches to ensure timely and efficient delivery and collection of
uniforms. Maintain inventory of apparel and laundry supplies. Verify order completion and submit orders to the Athletics Operations and Budget Specialist.

Operate field machinery for the routine maintenance of fields, including: zero-turn lawn mower, gator utility vehicle, three-wheel field groomer, and tractor. Complete field maintenance with use of weed trimmer, push mower, backpack blower and other equipment as necessary. Support coordinator of athletics with completion of projects and renovations. Obtain licensing for machine operation and chemical handling as required.

Assist the strength and conditioning coach with the maintenance of the athletics strength and conditioning room including assigning and monitoring staff to perform functions. Ensure safe operations of the facilities by monitoring and enforcing appropriate rules. Follow established safety policies and procedures, including the use of all personal protective equipment necessary to perform duties safely.

Provide support to athletic staff and coaches regarding student-athlete academic success services and eligibility compliance. Provide assistance with upkeep of the athletic department website and publications

Provide customer services, including staffing the equipment check-out counter, providing telephone coverage, and disseminating information on practice and game changes, and facility hours. Provide equipment and facilities orientation to new coaches and instructors.

Assist the coordinator of athletics with supervision of work study and game day staff. Serve as the direct supervisor in the absence of the coordinator of athletics.

Support the Athletics Operations and Budget Specialist with reconciliation of expenses and submission of purchase orders for all athletic teams.

This position requires outdoor work, which may subject the employee to harsh weather conditions.

This position requires nights, weekends, and is subsequent to working over 40 hours weekly with comp time provided.

Required Qualifications:

Two to five years of relevant experience
An Associate’s degree or completion of a specialized course of study (i.e., vocational school)
Ability to work a flexible 40-hour weekly schedule, primarily in the afternoon/evenings, including some day and weekend hours, to accommodate the needs of the college.
Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
Ability to operate college vehicles, lawnmower, utility vehicle, and be trained on forklift and scissor lift.
Exceptional communication and engagement skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Communications, customer service, or engagement background.
Prior experience with Daktronics or Nevco scoreboard equipment, and Public Address Announcing.
Familiarity with high school or collegiate athletics operations.
