Job Summary/Basic Function:
Reporting to the Vice President of Enrollment Management & Student Success, the Manager of Counseling Services / Clinician serves as both the administrator and a mental health provider for Counseling Services. The incumbent is responsible for day-to-day operations, supervision of staff, and the direct provision of counseling services to students. The Manager sits on the Enrollment Leadership Team (ELT), collaborates with colleagues across campus to support student wellness, and leads campus-wide prevention and outreach initiatives. This is a highly visible position committed to enhancing student success through inclusive, ethical, and trauma-informed mental health care.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
80% Clinician Responsibility

Provide short-term, evidence-based counseling and mental health services to students, including individual therapy, group counseling, and crisis response.

Participate in the CARE Team, maintaining accurate records and supporting early intervention strategies for students in distress.

Maintain compliance with legal, ethical, and professional standards, including FERPA and HIPAA regulations.

Collaborate with departments across LSSU, especially Housing, Student Conduct, Academic Success, Accessibility Services, and Title IX, to support wraparound student care.

Maintain accurate clinical documentation using electronic health records (EHR) and participate in quality assurance reviews.

Participate in campus events, serve on relevant university committees, and support broader student success and retention efforts.
20% Administration Responsibility

Oversee operations of Counseling Services, including clinical scheduling, workflow, and supervision of professional staff and graduate-level interns (if applicable).

Coordinate referrals to community-based providers, including psychiatric services and long-term care.

Facilitate outreach initiatives, training, and psychoeducational programming for students, faculty, and staff to promote mental wellness and reduce stigma.

Other duties as assigned in support of institutional and divisional goals.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in counseling, social work, clinical psychology, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
• Current licensure in the State of Michigan as an LPC, LMSW, or equivalent (or ability to obtain within six months of hire).
• Demonstrated experience in treating mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, and substance use.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and crisis management skills.
• Familiarity with legal and ethical standards for mental health providers (e.g., ACA, NASW, APA)
Preferred Qualifications:
• Doctoral degree in a relevant mental health field.
• Experience in a college or university counseling center setting.
• Supervision credentials (e.g., LPC-S, LMSW-S) and experience overseeing graduate student trainees.
• Familiarity with electronic health records.
• Minimum of five years of post-master’s clinical experience.
• Ability to speak a second language fluently.

M-F, 8am - 5pm and some after hours response.
10-month contract: August-May
