Position Summary
This position works 75% with a Carpenter I and 25% independently and is responsible for the routine and nonroutine care and maintenance of all university-maintained interior and exterior furnishings in accordance with trade practices and in compliance with applicable codes.
This position is identified as Essential Staff, responsible for maintaining the core functions and operations of the university, especially during emergencies, crises, or situations that require continuity of essential services.

Minimum Required Education and Experience
High school diploma OR GED with a minimum of 1 year of direct carpentry experience
Preferred Education and Experience
Associate degree or vocational or technical school degree in Carpentry and 2 years of direct carpentry experience
Required Other Training, Certifications, or Licensing
Must possess a valid NC Driver’s License and be insurable by the university’s carrier.
Job Duties
- The Carpenter II will work under the direction of a Carpenter I to learn all skills necessary to perform non-routine repair and replacement for all normal wear and damage of all university-maintained interior and exterior furnishings. Tasks include but are not limited to, flooring repair, drywall repair, bathroom hardware repair and installation, ceiling tile and track replacement and repair, minor interior and exterior furniture repair, deck repair, basic painting, hand tool operation, stage and tent assembly, installation of interior wall decor, and on the job training of Carpentry Department machinery. Advanced tasks such as, ceramic tile installation and repair, sheet metal work, roofing and gutter repair, exterior boxing and siding repair, basic cabinetry, basic masonry, and basics of water mitigation and mildew remediation.
- The Carpenter II is responsible for completing assigned work orders and accurately reporting results.
- Maintain all carpentry equipment, supplies and inventory.
