Position Summary

The Elon 1010 First-Year Seminar Program is pleased to announce a First-Year Experience (FYE) fellowship position to begin July 13, 2026. Elon University is ranked #1 in First-Year Experiences by U.S. World News & Report for the third year in a row. Elon 1010: The First-Year Advising Seminar is a nationally recognized signature FYE program at Elon, offered through a 1-credit hour, first-year seminar course designed on a foundation of holistic academic advising. Located in the Koenigsberger Learning Center (KLC), Elon 1010 works with new students until they declare a major, partners with students, faculty, and staff across campus to help clarify academic policies, and advises all students on appropriate resources for successful and timely degree completion.

The FYE Fellow appointed to this temporary, 10-month position, will primarily assist with aspects of the Elon 1010 program related to first-year experience, academic advising/success coaching, peer education, and assessment within the KLC. The Fellow appointed to this role will have an opportunity to renew the fellowship for a second and final year.

Professional Development & Mentorship Opportunities:
• NACADA Membership and access to professional development opportunities offered by NACADA.
• Opportunity to attend/present at NACADA Region 3 Conference and other local conferences within Piedmont/Triad area.
• Training and professional development provided on First-Year Experience, Academic Advising, Peer Education, and Assessment.
• Teaching a First-Year Seminar course.
• Access to Elon University Office of Leadership & Professional Development Workshops/Trainings.
• Participate in weekly 1-on-1 meetings with supervisor and bi-weekly staff meetings with supervisor to reflect on learning, growth, and tasks/projects.

This is a paid 10-month fellowship of $19,500. Full compensation package includes*:
• $19,500 Stipend ($1950 Monthly Stipend)
• On-Campus Housing provided/required in Mill Point Apartments (shared fully furnished university suite-style apartment with individual bedroom and bathroom. Utilities, internet, washer/dryer, TV streaming, and parking included.)
• Access to Elon Campus Recreation Center, athletic and cultural events, and campus speakers.
• *Please note health insurance benefits are not included.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Qualified candidates must have completed their graduate degree in a related field such as college student personnel/development, counseling, or higher education administration, OR be in the final semester of their related graduate degree program with a graduation date prior to July 13, 2026. Candidates must be able to commit to the full 10-month appointment to begin July 13, 2026 (the first month will be dedicated to training).

Must have an interest in first-year experience programs and possess outstanding communication skills (written, verbal, interpersonal). Must be able to effectively multi-task and manage large scale programming. Must possess high attention to detail and have a strong customer service orientation.

Preferred Education and Experience

Demonstrated experience with first-year experience programs, student support programs and/or diversity education is preferred. At least some supervisory experience as part of a graduate program is preferred.

Job Duties

  • Elon 1010/First-Year Experience:
    • Lead and manage all aspects of the recruitment and hiring process for 100+ Elon 1010 Peer Educators (PEs).
    • Assist with the training/professional development, management and supervision of 100+ Elon 1010 PEs.
    • Teach a section of Elon 1010: The First-Year Advising Seminar in fall semester and serve as an academic advisor to students enrolled in course, caseload of 15-17 students.
    • Serve on a team of 6 academic advisors in the Office of Academic Advising and provide supplemental advising and academic support for all undergraduate students related to graduation/course planning, course registration, and interpretation of academic policies.
    • Collaborate with Residential Neighborhoods through programming and workshops centered on academic advising/planning, first-year experience, and student success topics in collaboration with Neighborhood Associations, Community Directors, and Resident Assistants (RAs).
    • Assist with Elon 1010/KLC programming and events related to the first-year experience such as Admissions, Orientation, and Family Weekend, and Residence Life.
    • Attend weekly staff meetings to provide updates and receive staff input on tasks/projects related to Elon 1010 and KLC.
  • Success Coaching:
    • Manage a caseload of special population students who are referred for or who request success coaching.
    • Meet one-on-one and in a group setting to help students improve time management, organizational skills, and study strategies.
    • Identify challenges and barriers to academic success, help students to devise and implement learning plans, and meet regularly with students to ensure follow-through.
    • Commit to values that enhance inclusivity and diversity within advising, coaching, programming and the administration of services within KLC across campus.
