    Research Assistant - Dr. Moones in Grand Forks

    To provide engineering design and CAD drafting support for the NDCUC-funded geothermal corn drying project (UND0031053), which is developing a system that uses low-temperature geothermal heat from retired oil and gas wells to dry corn in North Dakota. The position supports the Task 2 design deliverables: heat exchanger and equipment sizing documentation, system layout, and the engineering drawing package required for the project reports and for later fabrication.

    Research Lab Assistant in Grand Forks

    Work study position available for an undergraduate student to help carry out research on the genetics of temperature-dependent sex determination in the common snapping turtle. The research will examine genetic and environmental effects on sex determination (i.e., whether turtle embryos become male or female). Duties and responsibilities include care of hatchling and juvenile snapping turtles (on a rotating basis among members of the laboratory) and general laboratory cleaning and maintenance. In addition, the successful candidate will learn and apply bioinformatics methods to carry out analyses of genotyping-by-sequencing data. Examples of analyses to be carried out include DNA parentage analysis, linkage mapping, and family-based association tests to identify genes involved in gonad development. The candidate should therefore have some proficiency with coding in R and/or Python.
