Summary:  We are looking for a highly motivated, organized, and knowledgeable post-doctoral researcher to join the Vision Sciences and Memory laboratory. The position will involve working in a highly productive and collaborative environment in which ongoing data collection, manuscript preparation, and grant proposal development are paramount. The selected researcher will have opportunities to work in visual search/attention, eye movement control, similarity, and virtual reality on both basic (theoretical) and use-inspired basic research projects. Classification Summary:
Assist, instruct and function as a role model for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in a relevant research program.

Classification Standard Duties:
Supervise, direct, delegate and evaluate work of assigned staff. Oversee and/or conduct research. Assist in technical support for the delegated project. Create new opportunities by preparing and submitting new project proposals to national funding agencies. Perform related duties as required.

The applicant may be responsible for, but not limited to, assisting in technical and outreach support in the department and organizing outreach events and conferences addressing activities associated with the research project.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the post-doctoral researcher as project manager will be to conduct oversight of the research program, to provide supervision to other personnel, and to oversee recruitment of participants and coordination of day-to-day project activities. The project manager will submit IRB applications for all new research, and will compile reports 2-3 times per semester relevant to all projects in order to keep the PI (Dr. Hout) apprised of the status of all ongoing research. The post-doctoral researcher will take part in all aspects of the research project, including: project conceptualization, IRB approval/maintenance, supervision of laboratory personnel, upkeep of laboratory equipment, oversight of data collection, programming and pilot testing of new experiments, data analysis, write-ups of results and research manuscripts, presentation of work at conferences and other venues, communication among internal and external research collaborators, and drafting of new grant proposals. Professional development in the form of (weekly) one-on-one mentoring with the PI, workshops, and other opportunities will be encouraged by the PI. The post-doctoral researcher will meet with the PI every six months (or more frequently) to review their progress and performance, and to explore whether or not the post-doctoral research requires additional support. Insufficient performance on one or more of the duties listed above may result in the post-doctoral researcher’s contract not being renewed after year 1. Research projects will include the following topics: medical image perception, visual attention, eye movement control, visual search, similarity perception, database creation, and incidental memory. Additionally, ideas for new project ideas/topics from the post-doctoral researcher will be encouraged by the PI. Performs other related duties as assigned.
