Summary: The Department of Music is seeking an active and highly motivated individual with a strong student-centered dedication to teaching to serve as an Assistant Professor of Trombone/low brass specialist beginning in the Fall semester of 2025.
Classification Summary:
The Department of Music at New Mexico State University is seeking an active and highly motivated individual with a strong student-centered dedication to teaching to serve as an Assistant Professor of Trombone/low brass specialist beginning in the Fall semester of 2025.
Classification Standard Duties:
Teaching - Duties will include teaching undergraduate and graduate applied low brass (trombone, euphonium, tuba) and pedagogy. Additional responsibilities include maintaining a strong studio and recruiting on behalf of the NMSU Music Department. The successful candidate will be assigned additional duties dependent upon the applicant's areas of expertise and the needs of the department such as arranging and orchestration.
Research - Perform in the faculty brass quintet. Appropriate research activities such as conference attendance/performance, publications etc...
Service - Oversee all aspects of the low brass program. Assume leadership role in the recruitment of low brass students through building and maintaining productive relationships with public school band programs, recruitment trips; participate in departmental and university committees and other university activities as assigned.
Outreach - Build and maintain productive relationships with local/regional band programs.
Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
D.M.A. in Trombone Performance required, (applications from ABD candidates may be considered). Previous college teaching experience is required.
