Summary: The Department of Music is seeking applications for a tenure-track position with the rank of Assistant Professor/Director of Choral Studies.
Classification Summary:
The Department of Music at New Mexico State University is seeking applications for a tenure-track position with the rank of Assistant Professor.
Classification Standard Duties:
Teaching - Direct/conduct two university choral ensembles; direct/conduct one community/university choral ensemble; teach undergraduate and graduate courses in choral conducting, methods, materials; coordinate and supervise vocal education majors’ student teaching; additional related areas subject to the candidate’s expertise and the needs of the Department.
Research – Maintain appropriate research activities such as conference attendance/performance, guest conducting, publications, etc.
Service – Oversee all aspects of the choral program including scheduling, budgeting, recruiting, fund-raising, and publicity; assume leadership role in the individual and collaborative recruitment of vocal students (undergraduate and graduate) through building and maintaining productive relationships with public school choral programs, recruitment trips, ensemble tours; participate in departmental and university committees and other university activities as assigned.
Outreach – conduct one community/university choral ensemble; building and maintaining productive relationships with local choral programs.
Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Doctorate preferred, but applications from ABD candidates will also be considered. Master's degree in Choral Conducting or Music Education is required. Successful experience as a secondary school conductor/educator and a commitment to teacher training is highly preferred. Ability to teach courses in choral music education, with college teaching experience also preferred.
