Classification Summary:
The Department of Communication Studies at New Mexico State University invites applicants for a 12-month College Assistant Professor position beginning on July 1, 2025. This position is a 12-month position renewable annually, contingent upon funding.
This faculty member will predominantly teach undergraduate and graduate courses in organizational communication and leadership in an 8-week asynchronous format. Graduate and undergraduate courses typically taught include: Case Studies in Leadership Communication, Leadership Communication, Ethics & Diversity in Leadership Communication, and Organizational Communication. They will also be responsible for chairing and overseeing Graduate Projects (MA Project) and have the opportunity to develop courses in an area of interest. The department desires a candidate passionate about leadership, organizational communication, and diversity.
Classification Standard Duties:
Candidates will teach four courses during the spring and fall semesters and two courses during the summer semester. Teaching will be the primary responsibility for this position, along with service to the department, outreach, and potential research commitment. The department encourages faculty in a college track position to engage in continual professional development.
Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Communication or a doctorate degree in a closely related area at the time of hire. An A.B.D will also be considered. This position requires experience teaching Organizational Communication and Leadership courses in an asynchronous online format. Evidence of teaching effectiveness is required. Past experience with online course and program development, teaching non-traditional and adult learners, and teaching in an 8-week asynchronous format is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
This position will assist with the continued growth of an online MA in Communication Studies with a concentration in Leadership and Communication and an online BA in Communication Studies. The faculty member will teach and develop 8-week asynchronous courses online at both the Graduate and Undergraduate levels. They will also create, maintain, and update course shells and materials for all of the courses they teach. This position will work with the Department Head and Program Coordinator for NMSU-Global to respond to potential online and virtual growth opportunities.
