Summary:  The NMRC will be essential to restore forests throughout the greater southwestern US by: 1) establishing a robust seed collection and banking program, 2) producing up to 5 million forest tree seedlings per year, 3} assisting the development of a planting program and associated workforce, 4) using science­ based approaches to meet reforestation goals.

Classification Summary:
Primarily responsible for directing the operational, financial, regulatory, human resource and business activities of a large major externally funded research division with multiple reporting units. Oversees all research activities within the domain of the division. These activities will include analyzing, modifying, and developing improved structure as needed.

Classification Standard Duties:
Provide oversight direction and leadership for contract maintenance, renewal, and new contract acquisition successes. Ensure adherence to and compliance with applicable state, Federal and other government regulations, and expectations of other regulatory agencies and funding source. Responsible for development and maintenance of inter-institutional/governmental relationships, and other external bodies important to the future success of the research. Accountable for implementing and monitoring approved operations budget. Responsible for the supervision and management of multiple levels of technical, professional, administrative and support staff within the division.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
This position will report directly to the Associate Dean of AES in cooperation with the New Mexico Reforestation Board.
Primarily responsible for directing the operational, financial, regulatory, human resource, and business activities of the New Mexico Reforestation Center. Oversees all activities within the NMRC program that includes seed collection/banking, nursery production, planting operations, and all other associated activities. The Director will analyze, modify, and develop improved structure as needed to the NMRC.
Provide oversight direction and leadership for contract maintenance, renewal, and new contract acquisition successes. Ensure adherence to and compliance with applicable state, Federal and other source. government Responsible for regulations, development and and expectations maintenance of other of regulatory agencies inter-institutional/governmental and funding source. Responsible for developing and maintaining close relationship between NMSU, NMRC Board, and Legislative individuals important to the future success of the NMRC program. Accountable for monitoring NMRC budget. Responsible for the hiring, supervision, and management of multiple levels of NMRC staff.

Preferred Qualifications

• 8-10 years' experience as a proven leader in the conservation arena, non-profit sector, advocacy, or related for-profit area, including demonstrated experience producing results and meeting program/department goals.
• Proven technical skills, analytical ability, good judgement, and strong operational focus.
• Proven managerial talent in budgeting.
• Outstanding leadership and visionary qualities and able to work effectively with and through others in a decentralized and geographically dispersed organization.
• Operational and/or leadership experience associated with tree seed collection, processing, and handling, reforestation nursery infrastructure, management and seedling production
