Classification Standard Duties:
Reporting to the Dean of the Library, the Access Services Department Head is a 12-month faculty position with administrative responsibilities for the operation of the department and its units. Responsible for oversight of access services, circulation, reserves, interlibrary loan, stack maintenance, facility maintenance, and security.
As a department head, serves on the NMSU Library Management Team, contributing to library-wide planning, policymaking, goal setting, and assessment efforts.
Ensures compliance with relevant library and university policies and procedures. Complies with department head roles and responsibilities as specified in New Mexico State University Administrative Rules and Procedures 6.72-Department Heads Responsibilities, including academic leadership, effective management, departmental advocacy, college and university stewardship, liaison to the dean, policy compliance, and recruitment.
Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
MLS degree or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program
Two years management experience in a library public services environment
Experience administering an Integrated Library System (ILS)

Job Duties and Responsibilities
• Manage 10 FTE staff and approximately 40 student employees
• Administer and provide overall leadership for Access Services department
• Ensure effective and high-quality departmental services, including circulation, reserves, collection management, interlibrary loan/document delivery
• Develop and communicate goals and objectives for the department
• Collaborate with internal and external entities to establish and develop services beneficial to library users · Oversee workflows and quality control measures
• Work cooperatively to address facilities, safety and security issues
• Assess the effectiveness and impact of departmental services to both the university and broader communities
• Foster an equitable and inclusive environment for diverse populations
• Serve as intermediary between library administration and the department
• Contribute to departmental and library-wide planning, policymaking, goal setting, and assessment efforts
• Serve as a member of the library’s management team · Serve on library and campus committees
• As a member of the library faculty, pursue an active and ongoing program of professional development appropriate to rank at the university, with responsibility to achieve in:
