Classification Summary:
Under general supervision is responsible for the support of a university enterprise system.Oversees personnel in the design and construction of relational databases for data warehousing. Develops data modeling and is responsible for data acquisition and access analysis and design; and archive, recovery, and load strategy design and implementation. Coordinates new data development ensuring consistency and integration with existing warehouse structure. Reviews business requests for data and data usage.
Classification Standard Duties:
Provides team leadership in the creation of high-level comprehensive data designs that address the needs of key stakeholders from the business, solution delivery and operations areas. Works with peers to conduct Data Architecture Reviews for a broad set of projects. Reviews and provides input into key aspects of the business case and work effort for a specific project. Reviews and provide input into functional & non-functional requirements. Provides consulting and conduct reviews through the development lifecycle. The Data Architect also performs gap analysis between planned data architecture functions and already established data architecture functions, particularly as previously handled by Application Structure and Integration Services.Researches data sources for new and better data feeds. Assists in continuous improvement efforts in enhancing performance and providing increased functionality.Oversees the supervision of personnel, which may include:work allocation, training, promotion and enforcement of internal procedures and controls and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE:Strong knowledge of database design principals. Knowledge of data architecture concepts such as OLTP and OLAP systems, operational data stores, data warehouses, data marts, staging databases and data servicing layers; experience in designing these data architectures. Understanding of data modeling concepts such as use of conceptual, logical and physical data models. Demonstrated experience in relational database query tuning and indexing strategies. Experience with report development tools, Microsoft Business Intelligence Studio, Microsoft Reporting Services is desired. Knowledge of data integration strategies and technologies, such as hub and spoke messaging architectures. Familiarity with SQL Server replication and distributed database architecture. Systems analysis experience and capabilities.; SKILLS:Short- and long-term planning; problem analysis and resolution; report preparation and presentation; interpersonal and organizational communication, both oral and written.; ABILITIES:Develop and maintain effective working relationships; maintain accurate and orderly records; use independent judgment and initiative; organize and direct activities.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
In partnership with functional stakeholders, develop business intelligence solutions sourced from institutional and external data to meet the needs of university leadership and stakeholders. Collaborate with decision makers and other technical teams to implement data architecture and models to advance analytics at NMSU. Collect business requirements from subject matter experts and research sources of data to identify limitations and/or make recommendations to enhance data collection for purpose of enhanced analytics and decision making opportunities. Adhering to data management, data standards and industry-accepted architecture principles and best practices, develop extract, transform and load (ETL) processes to create datamarts from ancillary systems and external sources. Ensure adherence to industry-accepted architecture principles. Design datasets and data models for the enterprise across all business functions of the university for use in self-service analytics. Coordinates new data development with key stakeholders ensuring consistency and integration with existing warehouse structure. Supervise junior technical staff. Lead and execute data projects delivering on time and as expected.
