Job Duties and Responsibilities: Primary job duties of the technician include 1) assisting full- and part-time faculty in preparing and delivering laboratory-based instruction; 2) setting up lab spaces with the necessary tools, materials, and equipment; ensuring they are in optimal condition for student use; 3) performing routine maintenance or minor repairs as needed; 4) keeping equipment and lab area functional and safe; 5) operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment; 6) serving as a resource for students; and, 7) offering guidance on proper equipment use and safety protocols during lab sessions.
Collaborating closely with faculty, the technician will 1) reinforce classroom concepts through hands-on demonstrations; 2) help students connect theoretical knowledge to practical application; 3) maintain the proper level of supplies; and properly use a wide range of tools and machinery. The technician will support the laboratories, equipment, and classes primarily taught at the DACC’s Espina Campus and also taught at the other campuses and centers.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
High School diploma or higher degree.
Equivalent Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:
Basic Computer Skills.
1-2 years experience in electronics preferred.
Hands-on familiarity with test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, function generators, and power supplies.
Background in soldering, breadboarding, or assembling basic electronic circuits.
Familiarity with microcontrollers or introductory programming environments like Arduino or Raspberry Pi.
Experience with safety procedures in electrical labs, including lockout/tagout awareness and proper equipment handling.
Experience maintaining tools, organizing components, and managing lab materials or check-out systems.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Environment: Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
Physical Effort: Light physical effort. Effort applies to no more than two (2) hours per day.
Lifting Requirements: Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking.
Risk: Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
